Top 10 Fun Things to Do in Santa Clarita
Santa Clarita is a great town to live in. There are absolutely no bored children or teenagers here. It’s a fantastic place to raise a family because there’s so many fun things to do. Here’s a list of just some of the ways Santa Claritans entertain themselves.
1. Six Flags Magic Mountain is one of the main attractions of Santa Clarita. It’s located in Valencia right of the 5 freeway. If you’re from here, when out-of-towners ask where you’re from, you tell them, “you know…where Magic Mountain is”. It’s a huge amusement park with roller coasters, carnival type rides and a kiddie-ride area. They also have an arena where they will sometimes host concerts, magic shows and more. Tickets are about $67 but they usually have specials for so-cal residents. Or you can buy a season pass for $73, and go all year long.

2. Just next door to Six Flags is Hurricane Harbor. Only open during hot seasons, it’s a huge water park with water slides, a lazy river and a simulated ocean. Tons of fun for the whole family on those hot summer days!
3. Westfield Valencia Town Center, which is located directly in the center of town, is a great mall. It just received a makeover and now has a patio area with high end shops ,boutiques and restaurants. You’ll also find a really cool outdoor playground, (our kids’ favorite) and train rides. Inside there’s a merry-go-round and an indoor play area for the kids. Not to mention, the Edwards Theater, which shows 3D Imax movies. I think most of us know what a mall consists of, but ours is exceptionally cool, trust us.
4. Mountasia Family Fun Center is a great place for birthday parties, but it can also be just a special treat to bring your kids there on a Sunday. There you’ll find a miniature golf course, batting cages, a roller rink, a full arcade, bumper boats, and go-carts and laser tag! Need we say more?
5. Gentle Barn is super fun. It’s a place where they rehabilitate animals that have been rescued from abuse and on Sundays they are open to the public. You can actually brush the cows and feed the horses. There’s also a petting area where you can pet the goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, peacocks and a llama. They ask for a $10 “donation” but I don’t think they’ll let you in if you don’t “donate”. So it’s $10/person, but well worth it. The kids love it and the money goes to the animals. There’s picnic tables, so you can eat while there, but don’t bring a ham sandwich because they are strictly vegan.
6. Santa Clarita Aquatics center is another, more affordable choice for a summertime activity. Entry is only about $10 and it has 3 giant pools and a 160 foot water slide! The water slide is surrounded by shallower waters, so it’s a great place to bring the kids and watch them splash while you kick back in one of the many lounge chairs.
7. Not too far from the Aquatics Center is the Santa Clarita Skate Park. Pretty self explanatory, this park has half pipes and what not that the boys (and some girls) like to bust tricks on? (I know, I’m old) The park is FREE and even has wifi for all those perfect Instagram posts you take while there.
8.  The brand new Newhall Public Library is another fantastic place to take the family. Just opened a year ago, they have free story times for the kids and a really comfy lounge and study area with computers for teens and grown ups. There’s also a lot of historical pictures on the walls and a lighthouse. Even if you don’t know how to read, it’s worth checking out.
9. Santa Clarita has over 70 miles of hiking trails, and most of them are just minutes away from civilization. We also pride ourselves on something we call The Paseo System. It’s about 30 miles (and more to come) of pathways and bridges that go all through town, connecting the different neighborhoods, shopping centers and parks. You can pretty much walk anywhere without ever having to cross traffic.
10. Hart Park is a beautiful, historical park where they harbor bison, cows, pigs, ducks, geese, some other weird birds and a deer. This is another thing to do that’s free.
11. Placerita Nature Center is a State Park where there are beautiful trails to hike. Every Saturday they offer the Family Nature Walk at 11am and the Native Live Animal Show at 1pm. Both events are free!
12. SENSES is an event that happens monthly in the summer. With a new theme every month, it’s basically a huge block-party on the streets of Downtown Newhall, with food trucks, live music, games and more! One time they had a Vegas themed night, where they had actual blackjack tables and such. (played with pretend winnings of course)
13. Castaic Lake is the northern most part of Santa Clarita. There you can fish, swim, boat, or just soak in the breathtaking scenery.
14. Santa Clarita has about 30 playgrounds and parks, 2 of which are four-legged-friendly. Central Bark and Canine Country.
15. Concerts in the Park is an event that happens in the summer. Every Sunday they have free concerts. Families lay blankets on the grass and have picnics while rocking out to live musical performances, usually by pretty rad cover bands.
16. Bouquet Falls is located within Angeles National Forest. It’s flourished with beautiful oak trees and a gorgeous natural waterfall. Very romantic for hiking and fun for kids too, just watch out for poison oak!!
As you can see, Santa Clarita is not only a town, it’s a community. There’s always something to do, look at, or explore, whether you have a fat wallet, or empty pockets. Never a dull moment in Santa Clarita!
